vSwarm Client Updates

An automatic update feature is implemented in the client. When a new client version is deployed on the server all clients will download and install this update when connecting the next time. This happens when you first connect to the server or after every work unit.

Update steps

All these steps are performed automatically, so you do not need to download and run anything. If the update process fails please download the installer manually and install it again or contact us for help.

  1. Download of signature file
  2. Download of update file
  3. Validation of the update using the signature and the vSwarm public key already present in the client
  4. Client closes and update is installed
  5. Installer restarts the client and resumes operation

Security

Updates are secured using a signature algorithm. Before the update starts a signature file is downloaded from our server and the update is validated using the signature file and the vSwarm public key included in the client. This prevents unauthorized users (e. g. hackers) to automatically install a modified software version on your system.

The private key to sign updates is not stored on the vSwarm servers. It is kept on a secured external system where updates are signed.
